A bone graft is placed in an area where the ridge of the bone is too thin to support an implant. Sometimes a bone graft is placed at the time of an extraction to promote healing and sometimes it is placed in an area where a tooth was removed several years ago.
Sinus Lift Procedure Sometimes when the upper back (posterior) teeth have been removed, the maxillary sinus and sinus membrane fill in the space where the tooth roots were. In order to have enough bone height (ridge) to place an implant, a bone graft is placed at the sinus floor.
